This is the rest area off the Long Island Expressway (I-495), in the Dix Hill section of Huntington, NY. As far as rest areas are concerned, this is a nice one. I do a lot of driving, and am by myself with the dogs for most trips. I struggle with rest areas, because most don't allow dogs inside. I wind up leaving the dogs in the car with the engine running and the air conditioning on, but that gets me very nervous! I was actually able to bring the dogs inside the rest area here. There is also a "Pet Comfort Area" outdoors, which is basically a small dog park. The fake lighthouse, boat and whale swimming make for good photo backdrops.
