Grey Towers National Historic Site

Date visited: 7/13/2024

This was Mandy and Lexi's first visit to Pennsylvania. This is the site of the Greys Tower mansion, which was the summer home of Gifford Pinchot, who was the father of the US Forest Service, and two time governor of Pennsylvania. The forest service still manages the property. Dogs are allowed on the grounds, but not inside the mansion, where they conduct paid tours. We also walked the Forest Discovery Trail, that leads to the replica of the Yale School of Forestry campsite. Evidently, the grounds here were used as Yale's University summer fieldwork location. The gardens on the grounds are beautiful, and a nice place to take dogs for a walk if you are in the area.

Delaware State Forest - Lily Pond

Date visited: 7/13/2024

While there are a couple of trails here, we used this spot specifically so Mandy and Lexi could cool off in the pond on a very hot day.

Downtown Milford

Date visited: 7/13/2024

This was a walk through the small town of Milford, PA, mostly on Broad Street, East Catherine Street, River Road and East Hartford Street. There was an area on River Road where we could see views of the Delaware River and across it into New Jersey, but there was no access to the river itself.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

Date visited: 7/13/2024

While we were walking around Milford, we were able to check out a very small segment of Delaware water Gap National Recreation Area. We followed a short trail that led to a brook, but couldn't reach the Delaware River without crossing the brook. We had already had a long day, so the dogs cooled off in the brook, but we didn't cross it.
