Rocky Hill

Dividend Pond

Date visited: 11/21/2020

This is a very cool place! There's a lot of great photo opportunities here. I plan to come back in the spring, when things are green. I picked a dreary day to come here initially, but I still like how the photos came out. There was quite a bit of people here during a pandemic, so I was a little uncomfortable with that. But most of the people were congregating near the waterfall and dam at one end of the pond. There weren't many people hiking the loop around the pond. There are also some crazy zig-zaggy mountain bike trails at the far end as well.

Quarry Park

Date visited: 6/13/2021

I always love it when I can find a trail that is different from the standard walk in the woods. This one was really cool. We took the blue trail. There is a yellow trail as well, but it's a bit more challenging. The blue one was challenging enough! It starts out as the standard walk in the woods, but then becomes a hike through a clearing that I wasn't expecting. According to the map on my phone, this was "Rocky Hill"! It was a bit hot for this section with no shade. It loops back around and we took a side trail to the old ruins. As you can see below, the graffiti artists were busy here! One of the abandoned buildings was filled with all sorts of junk too. If these walls could talk.... It's probably good that they can't. I don't think I want to know what's gone down here!

Rocky Hill Dog Park

Date visited: 9/11/2021

We actually used to visit this dog park about a dozen times a year, mostly during the winter and spring months when the East Windsor Dog Park is closed. Somehow, until now, we hadn't been here since December of 2018. I tried to take some group shots with the dog's friends from this park, but nobody was really cooperating all that much.

Bulkley Park

Date visited: 12/25/2022

Merry Christmas! This was our first Christmas Day adventure. We had been stuck in the house the past few days because of how brutally cold it has been. Today it was in the mid 20's and it felt tropical in comparison. I had some time to kill before the family obligations, so we went on this short, but challenging hike. The trail is only a little over a mile but features lots of ups and downs with some good climbs. It's not the most scenic trail, but it is well marked and easy to follow despite being covered with leaves. One spot at the top of the hill had a good view of the ice chunks flowing down the Connecticut River beyond the railroad tracks.

Ferry Park

Date visited: 5/9/2024

This park is at the site of the historic ferry between Rocky Hill and Glastonbury. The sign says that this is the "Nation's oldest continuously operating ferry". That being said, I don't think it has opened this year for some reason. There's not much here. There are some docks and picnic tables, but no trails or anything to walk. We circled the park, but it was less than half of a mile.
