Ogunquit

Ogunquit Beach

Date visited: 9/10/2024

This is the main beach in the town of Ogunquit. It is a barrier beach, with a river estuary on the inner side, and open ocean on the outer side. Dogs are allowed on the ocean side from September 9th until March 31st. The waves are pretty big here, but the beach itself doesn't really have any unique features. There are no rocky areas, or anything else that really stands out. It's pretty much just flat sand. It's a very easy beach to walk on. The north end of the beach borders Moody Beach in the town of Wells, and we continued for another mile or so on that beach before turning around and heading back. After that, we went on a short walk through town, via a pedestrian walkway that leads to Shore Road. We then returned to the beach, as it got sunnier and the light was better for more pictures. We walked over six miles total here. It's certainly a good beach to take your dogs to in the off-season, but I just don't think it is as nice as some of the other beaches we've visited in New England.

Shore Road

Date visited: 9/10/2024

There's a pedestrian path leading from Ogunquit Beach to Shore Road. The path features a scenic wooden walkway, with great views of the river estuary. This part of Shore Road features a number of little shops and inns. The scenic Marginal Way walking trail starts here, and leads to Perkins Cove. Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed on that path until October, so we weren't able to check that out.

Perkins Cove

Date visited: 9/10/2024

This is a small tourist area with little shops and restaurants. Boat tours and dinner cruises also launch from here. One end of the Marginal Way walking path can be accessed from here as well, but dogs aren't allowed on that path until October.
